ITLR virtual triathlon Thailand

9th-17th October 2021!

Normally, we would travel to a country, plan a route and partner with local organisations, to raise awareness about human trafficking and violence against women.

We have been trying to organise an ITLR event in Thailand for two years now, but sadly due to Covid-19 this has proved impossible for the moment.

All is not lost though, we will be holding a virtual event this October

Where:  Virtually in Thailand, but actually where-ever you want to be!

Route: The virtual route we will be covering is from Mae Sot on the border with Myanmar to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. It is a distance of 500 km

When: October 9th - 17th 2021

Format of the run:

As we can’t be there in person, everyone will contribute kilometres to the total that they have covered at home.

Once you have registered, at the start of the event you will be able to send us the distance you have covered, by either sending a photo of an online running/cycling/swimming app, or simply sending a photo of the distance on your exercise bike.

You can plan to cover the whole 500km over the two week period, or you can contribute whatever you feel able to complete to add to the team total.

Why this route?

Oasis Belgium has long worked with Thai women who have been brought to Belgium on a marriage visa, but have suffered violence and sometimes been trafficked into exploitation. Because of this work, we are keen to do a In The Long Run in Thailand, even if it has to be virtual!

The route between Mae Sot and Bangkok is also an established trafficking route. Traffickers in particular deceive young people and children coming over the border from Myanmar and traffic them into exploitation in Bangkok.

This is a critical route and we can make a difference.

FAQ’s

How much does it cost?

There is no sign up cost for this virtual event, but we would ask that you pay €30 if you would like an ITLR technical t-shirt.

Do I need to raise sponsorship?

There is no minimum level of sponsorship to be raised, although we would like everyone to raise as much money as possible!

The money raised will go to the work of Oasis Belgium working with Thai women who have suffered domestic violence and human trafficking.

Once you have signed up to participate, you will be sent a pack with tips and advice on how to raise money for this great cause.
